Matamoros, Tamaulipas, Mexico

Matamoros, officially known as Heroica Matamoros and formerly named San Juan de los Esteros Hermosos, is a city in the northeastern state of Tamaulipas, in the country of Mexico. It is located on the southern bank of the Rio Grande, directly across the border from Brownsville, Texas, in the United States.

The Charro Days Parade has been around in its current format since 1938. It is rumored that the first “unofficial” Charro Days took place in the early to mid-1800s, when citizens of Brownsville and Matamoros, just across the Rio Grande River in Mexico, came together to celebrate a cooperative climate between the two nations.
